The Perfect Printed Pen

Sometimes I crave the weight and feel of a perfect old fashioned fountain pen, with proper ink, and some decent writing paper. It probably all stems from the fact that I was at school several millennia ago and in the junior school I was the ink monitor. Oh the power! If my best mate had been mean to me he did not get his ink well filled up! I jest, but there is something to be said for a proper pen and proper ink. It says this is a person with gravitas, style, money and good education. Of course it is not easy to find such a pen these days unless you are prepared to spend a lot of dosh and it is particularly tricky to find suitable executive pens for the business man who has every thing. However the better the gift the more it says about the giver and the company from which it has come. Fountain pens can be seen on our website at
www.top-pen.co.uk The LPC028 is a beautiful fountain pen with gold plate and deep blue lacquer finish, a very prestigious gift. The LPC049 is a classic black fountain pen with silver trim. Both of these pens could be presented as matching sets of fountain pen and mechanical pencil. The Stapleford fountain pen and roller ball set in presentation box would make a very acceptable gift. All of the pens can be printed or engraved.

Express Service Printed Pens

Forgotten to order in time for that trade show or conference just 7 days away? A printed pens order can be turned around in 3 – 5 days but the important points to remember in are these: artwork must be useable, i.e. in editable EPS format with text saved as curves, and the 3 day count down begins with the customer’s artwork proof approval. If artwork is not in that format we cannot print from it and time and money must be spent to correct the situation. Far too often the customer thinks that his or her responsibility for getting the order out in time is finished when they send us the purchase order so stressing the importance of that artwork format and sign off is really important. The other factor to remember is that date of delivery is dependent on the carriers, once the printed pen has left the factory we are not responsible for delivery date. It always helps to make sure that the customer has given us the correct post code address details and contact telephone numbers for the carrier’s information. Favourite Express order pens are the X- One, the Dynamite and the Ocean Frost. They are on the website at www.top-pen.co.uk

Magnetic Printed Pens and Neck Pens

How often has the cry ‘who’s pinched my pen’ gone up around the office, workshop, factory and any other place you can think of where pens are used?

There are several ways of avoiding this problem
1) put your pen around your neck
2) stick your pen to an immovable surface
3) forsake pens and paper altogether and use the technology

The neck pen is a fairly stylish way of coping with the lost pen syndrome, and if fewer pens are lost it could help to cut office equipment costs a smidgeon. We have the tie neck pen and holder, a beautifully moulded neck pen which is available in a variety of finishes. Alternatively we have neck pen holders with universal retaining mechanisms; these will hold any type of ball pen. If safety is an issue in your working environment then a safety break off cord is available with the Clack Neck Pen Holder.

The magnetic pen is fairly recent entry to the promotional pen scene. These pens are a little strange to look at but provide an enormous advertising area and they work well on all kinds of equipment. If you would like to see a free sample of any of these items email sales@juon.co.uk

Senator Pens Part II

In this second piece on our Senator Pen range we would like to highlight the Economy group of pens. These promotional pens are all retractable and are fantastic value for money. They provide a good sized advertising surface to print you company messages. The economy range includes the ever popular Hit pen which can be screen printed or Photo printed. The Point ball pen has a plastic barrel with metal fittings. The barrel can be screen or photo printed whilst the metal section can be laser printed.
The Spring is a variation of the Point pen having an original spiral spring on the push button which gives this pen a very unusual and interesting appearance. The Super-Hit pen has a voluminous barrel giving lots of print area space for your branding. Photo print and screen printing are possible on the barrel and the clip can be printed too. The Super Hit Metallic as the name suggests comes in a variety of very glossy metallic finishes whilst the original Super Hit is presented in combinations of black, blue, yellow and white. Last but not least is the Tip pen, again silk screen printing and Photo print are possible on the barrel and the clip can be printed as well. This is the ideal printed pen for advertising campaigns.

Senator Pens Part I

When I think of a senator I see in my minds eye two images: the modern American variety and the ancient roman type complete with white toga. Apparently, in the roman republic the senators entered the senate by being elected to a lowly position in the magistracy. Once elected, the senator could then lounge around in his toga and participate in the political mayhem of the day. Is this any different from the modern version, apart from the toga?

We have a senate of pens it seems. Senator pens are produced in Germany and probably rival the Swiss made Prodir pens in that they occupy the same niche of good quality plastic pens with smooth writing properties and classical looks, but having said that, there are some very modern designs amongst these pens.

The Design group of pens include the Challenger, Massimo, Hattrix, Matrix, New Spring and Racer retractable pens. Of these the Challenger pen range can be printed on an Express service. The Massimo has an ergonomic soft grip section and is supplied with gel ink. The Hattrix has a super large capacity ink refill, ergonomic section and a large, curved metal clip. The Hattrix pen can be printed 3600 around the barrel in 1 to 4 colours providing an enormous advertising surface. The Matrix gel ink pen has a very futuristic barrel design with a soft grip section, matt chromium plated metal clip and supplied with gel ink refill. The barrel colours are very sharp being silver metallic, blue metallic or anthracite metallic or transparent red, green and dark blue. The New Spring is a popular pen with its unusual push cap mechanism incorporating a glossy metal clip, super large ink capacity refill and glossy metallic colours. This pen can be printed with a logo on the cap as well on the barrel. Finally in this group there is the Racer, a pen with a really unusual design and finished in those classy metallic colours. Apart form the New Spring Metal all of the pens in this group can be printed on the barrel and the clip. Where pens have a metal clip then the imprint is by heat treatment or etching

A word or two here about the various printing methods might be sensible as Senator is one of the few companies who manufacture and print their own pens. Senator offers a range of print options based upon the design of the pen and the materials used to construct the pen. Some of the pens can be printed with a full colour image wrapped 3600 around the barrel. The photo print service transfers a photo to the barrel of the pen. Other methods of printing include silk screen, tampo printing and the use of special inks on metals to provide a long lived image.

St Valentine’s Day penmanship

How many words have been penned as a consequence of St Valentine’s Day?
How many cards, letters, poems, stories, myths and legends have been written in the name of love? I cannot answer these questions, a brief search today showed just how enormous the whole topic is.

If we get down to how rather than why these documents have been written then the possibilities are less numerous. Carving initials on trees seemed to be fairly popular at one time although definitely frowned upon now but good handwriting has always been well thought of and something to aspire to even now, witness the handwriting competitions at Primary Schools.
It always helps to have a good pen and there are no shortages of these on our website. A good pen always makes a very acceptable present, especially as they get lost so easily and need replacing. The ever popular Parker Jotter Pens and Parker Vector Roller ballpens are priced very reasonably and the Parker Vector is supplied in a presentation box. Perhaps more stylish are the Symphony Ball Pens, my favourite, a retractable ball pen with a fashionable rubber grip and a highly lacquered finish. Prodir pens, very well priced but these excellent quality twist action ball pens are hard to beat for assisting smooth writing. Prodir pens are made and printed in Switzerland so the lead time is a little longer than normal but well worth the wait. Finally if you are looking for a really elegant pen then the Classic Century 2502 Cross Pen may be what you have in mind. The list is endless; I could go on but would end up by being very boring, perish the thought.

Mightier than the Sword

In idle moments - relatively few and far between - I have wondered just how many different versions there could possibly be of a pen! Looking at our manufacturer's information is mind boggling and here's another thing just how many pen producers are there in the world today? A pen is a pen after all, it has ink inside a barrel, it may have a cap or a mechanism to hide the nib but then that is it. Well it was until the designers got their hands on it. Now we have proud and expensive executive pens ; we have jolly printed promotional pens, giveaway pens, novelty pens, funky pens, and magnetic pens to name but a few, and that barely scratches the surface of the variety that is available today. When Cro Magnon man first started doodling in the dust with a stick little did he know what he had started. ( www.infoplease.com/ce6/society ) Whilst typing this I have also had at the back of my mind the sheer waste of resources going into this overproduction of writing equipment - I know - I am working my socks off to sell more and more of the stuff - how can I square this with my conscience? Not easily, but we do have pens made from recycled paper and PET bottles and pens made from corn starch; sadly we do not sell so many of these. There are a lot of websites out there telling us what we should recycle and why, this was just one of them www.bbc.co.uk/education (Could we turn pens into plough shares?) Going back to one of my original thoughts on pens a search on Google has just revealed 662,000 sword manufacturers and 967,000 pen manufacturers. So what does that tell me? I am not sure but I guess that swords these days are often for decorative purposes whilst pens are for the more important tasks of signing credit card slips!
